Industry Insights: Acting by Adam Channer
Since I was a teenager, I have often pondered a career in the world of acting. Not only was I one of the highest performing students in my drama class during high school, but I have also always had a passion for the performing arts - a space where I can exercise my creative mindset and break free from the shackles of humdrum monotony and the corporate excision of one's individuality.
The prospect of the freedom of expression, the ability to become someone else and to become myself all over again, excites and entices me like nothing else. No other profession allows such room to invent, reinvent, transform and deconstruct like theatre.
Currently, I am looking at improv classes and networking events, with a view to taking full time acting lessons in the future, in order to break into the industry and make my mark. I am open to any and all opportunities that help me realise this goal, and turn it from mere ambition to a reality.
Most people would probably tell you that acting is a particularly difficult profession to gain a foothold in, with many hurdles and obstacles in your way before you even begin, not to mention the very real likelihood of constant and repeated rejection. As I know it, the key here, in the face of seemingly overwhelming adversity, is simply to persevere and continue offering the unadulterated, unapologetic one-of-a-kind brand that is YOU.
Once you are able to overcome these challenges, you will realise one very important fact - that nothing worth doing ever comes easy. And that is exactly the position you will find yourself in, a place with a wealth of opportunity, where you are only limited by your own will - and it is here you’ll be able to look in the mirror and tell yourself, with absolute conviction, it was all worth it.
