Corrie’s Journey to The Social Switch Project:
When Corrie was referred to Elevation+ in October 2024, they were navigating a difficult period in their life. They had recently experienced a mental health crisis and were facing ongoing challenges with housing, having been without stable accommodation for around two years. At the time, they lacked a consistent and reliable support system, which made it harder to access opportunities and move forward.
Corrie had not been in education, employment, or training for over two years and had been diagnosed with anxiety and depression. Despite these challenges, they had a strong academic foundation, having achieved GCSEs, a Level 3 qualification in Sports and Applied Science, and an A-level in Business. They were also actively engaging in their community and had a passion for physical activity. Corrie was eager to move forward but needed guidance to access the right support and opportunities.
Finding Corrie Support:
Through weekly one-to-one sessions with a dedicated youth mentor, Elevation+ supported Corrie with practical, personalised steps towards education and employment. Alongside this, Corrie was supported in accessing temporary accommodation, aiming to bring stability to her situation.
Working closely with their mentor, Corrie updated their CV and cover letter, explored job and training options, and identified opportunities in both the construction and security industries. Corrie was also supported in accessing a laptop to aid their learning and was accompanied to South Thames College to complete the course enrolment.
Corrie was also referred to Catch22’s Inspiring Connections Programme and signposted to the Skills Lab training and employability guide, to help build their skills and confidence even further.
Outcomes:
Since joining the project, Corrie has made significant progress. They completed a Health and Safety Awareness course and are now enrolled on an SIA course at college, which they attend independently. Their mental health has improved, and they’re feeling more positive about the future.
